Boane

Boane orphanage

Located about thirty kilometers from Maputo, the Boane orphanage is home to around 40 girls aged 6 to 18.

This privately run center operates with very limited resources, yet shows remarkable dedication to the children it shelters. For these girls, the orphanage is far more than a place of refuge. It is a safe, stable environment where they can learn, express themselves, and grow with confidence.

Since 2021, ACA Moz has been implementing its full educational and psychosocial program in Boane:

  • Academic reinforcement: literacy classes and academic tutoring to strengthen learning foundations.
  • Language and digital skills: English and computer lessons to open new horizons and improve future job opportunities.
  • Psychosocial support: regular sessions with a psychologist, group discussions, and workshops on children’s rights, womanhood, and self-confidence.
  • Arts and sports: plastic arts, theater, dance, and weekly physical activities that nurture creativity, teamwork, and joy.
  • From the age of 15, girls can join the ACA Moz sewing workshop, where they acquire hands-on, professional skills in sewing and embroidery.
  • Transition to adulthood: support with university applications, family support, scholarships, professional internships, and mentorship opportunities.
